Former Copperhead hurler Antle signs with Phillies' organization

CONWAY, S.C. – Former Asheboro Copperhead and Coastal Carolina pitcher Chase Antle signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Phillies organization Monday.

The right-handed pitcher played just one year with the Chanticleers, pitching in three games over the shortened 2020 season. However, he was dominant on the backend for the Chants' bullpen serving as the closer. He went 0-0 with one save and a 0.00 ERA on the year, not allowing a single run over three appearances out of the bullpen.

He threw 1.0-scoreless innings in each of the three games he appeared in and did not allow a hit on the season. The right-handed flame-thrower, who hit 99 mph twice versus Maryland (March 1) and also touched 98 twice and 97 multiple times in his three appearances on the year, fanned four batters over 3.0 innings and walked just one while not allowing a runner past first base. He recorded the save with a scoreless ninth inning in the 3-1 win over Maryland.

While in a Copperheads jersey in the summer of 2019, he appeared in four games with a 1-1 record and a pair of saves. He threw seven innings, allowing four hits while striking out 13. He had a 2.57 ERA.

In his three years at Bowling Green before coming to Coastal as a graduate transfer, Antle went 3-9 with a 6.69 ERA over 42 appearances and 16 starts. He fanned 100 batters over 80.2 innings of work and held his opponents to a .263 batting average.
